In pursuit of high image quality in monochrome expression, the K-3 Mark III is equipped with a new monochrome-specific CMOS image sensor with low-pass filter-less specifications that produces high-resolution images of approximately 25.73 effective megapixels in the APS-C size equivalent.
Unlike monochrome images produced by general colour image sensors, where each pixel receives light through a red (R), green (G) or blue (B) colour filter, converts the image to colour through interpolation processing and then converts it to monochrome, each pixel acquires luminance information, and the image is then converted to monochrome. This enables monochrome images to be produced with greater finesse, higher resolution and superior tonal reproducibility.
